Properties of 3D Shapes 🧊
3D shapes have special features that make them different from 2D shapes:
Faces
Flat surfaces that make up the shape. Each face is a 2D shape like a square, triangle, or circle.
Edges
Lines where two faces meet. Edges are straight lines that form the boundaries between faces.
Vertices (Corners)
Points where three or more edges meet. The plural of vertex is vertices.
Volume
The amount of space a 3D shape occupies. Measured in cubic units (cm³, m³).
Common 3D Shapes 🧊
Cube
A cube has 6 square faces, 12 edges, and 8 vertices. All angles are right angles.
Pyramid
A pyramid has a polygon base and triangular sides that meet at a point (apex).
Sphere
A sphere is perfectly round with no edges or vertices. All points on its surface are the same distance from its center.
Cylinder
A cylinder has two circular faces and one curved surface. It has two circular edges.
Cone
A cone has one circular face and one curved surface. It has one vertex (apex).
